Have used for approx 2 1/2 months. My comparison is limited to the Concept at gyms. Retired, to much spare time, wanted a quality rower at home. This unit has served me very well. The resistance concept is good. I set to 4 or 5 and go. Either constant 34 to 36 strokes, or 15 secs all out, 45 recovery for 15 minutes. Wife also uses and is very satisfied. Extremely solid. Screen could use more contrast as overhead glare makes viewing difficult at certain angles. Overall well worth it

I have had this machine for 4 years now and use it at least 3 times a week. The machine has really held up well. It is as good as the day it was delivered. I like the smoothness of the pull and slide of the seat. Much better than any others I have used in the gym. Just as important is the customer service. I did need to replace a wheel in the seeat and the service department was outstanding. The only negative I have is the monitor. It is old and difficult to navigate but I see in the brochure it has been upgraded. Well done. I wonder if I could awap mine to the new monitor? I would highly recommend this product and I bet the rest of the line of eqipment is just as good.

I’ve been looking at rowers for a few weeks. I ended up purchasing a Bodycraft VR400. It was a little more money than I originally entended to spin, but you get what you pay for. And with Bodycraft you sure do! I am a product designer so I appreciate quality of design, engineering, materials, construction and performance. The VR400 gets straight A’s in my book. I love this machine! It functions flawlessly. It’s quite. It’s smooth. It provides a great full body workout. And it’s fun! If you’re thinking about a rower. Don’t hesitate to buy a Bodycraft.

Purchased this two days ago (6/24/18) and am very pleased with the machine. I had not owned a rowing machine before and really hadn’t tried anything other than the hydraulic ones from “back in the day,” but my son was on the Crew team his first trimester of college and really liked rowing, so I started to consider one. My son had used the Concept 2 and liked it, so I made sure to try one of those before purchasing (I was able to do this at a local health club). The Concept 2 was fine, but I much prefer this VR400 due to the ability to adjust the resistance magnetically. Thus, you don’t necessarily have to pull fast and with great force to get a good workout. This machine has a very smooth pull and the seat slides nicely. Extremely well-designed in my opinion. Set-up was pretty straightforward–probably took us around 45 minutes from unpackaging to operational.

I just purchased this machine after an extensive competitive analysis vs. Concept2 and WaterRower.

The best reason to choose the VR400 is the mechanics of the rowing resistance. The air+magnetic drive offers a superior feel than the Concept2 (ugh that chain and noise) and has multiple resistance settings (vs. WaterRower).

Don’t let them tell you there’s variable resistance on Concept2 or WaterRower. If you’re really trying to train, you want increased resistance, and the magnet-based resistance will knock you out.

The other hesitation I had was storage, and this machine is easy to move and has a reasonable footprint. Unlike the Concept2, the VR400 has a fantastic quick-release mechanism that keeps the whole assembly together, but on a pivot. Three wheels makes it easy to move anywhere.

The machine is also great looking.

The one caveat is that the LCD monitor is hard to read, and doesn’t seem to have any way to interface or download data.

However, I’m using a HIIT Timer on my iPad, and that gives me a real workout without needing additional integration. It is worth noting that the LCD monitor does give you valuable information including calories, and it works great with my Polar H7 heart tracker.

The construction seems like it will last forever.

I highly recommend this rowing machine.

I just barely received my Rowing machine and am already loving it. While other exercise equipment are also great for fitness, this machine has an element of enjoyment that I’ve felt from the very first session. Great Job on a wonderfully built masterpiece!

Great machine.. got it a few days ago from a local dealer. It fit folded up in my Ford Explorer. So far I can only do 2 min at a time..it kicks my butt, but am doing 3 times a day to build up to 20 min. I am very satisfied so far. Very smooth and well built.

I bought this for myself, but now can’t keep my husband off of it. Very smooth, much better resistance options versus the water rower I used to use. Just what i wanted. The screen is a little hard to read however.

Bought this machine from a local dealer. Love it through these trying times. Really smooth glide, right up there with the concept 2. Family won’t stay off of it.

Went looking for a Concept 2. The local dealer said they could get me one but I tried the 400 Rower and was sold. One of the seat rollers went bad and customer service was excellent. As far as the monitor goes I just use it in the manual mode and write down my results.I use it about four days a week and really get a good workout

Amazing product. The seat is much more comfortable than others out there. The pull is smooth. All motion is fluid and comfortable. Also, it’s pretty quiet unless you’re having a high intensity training day. The only complaint we would have is the digital screen could be brighter. But we still give it 5 stars because it really doesn’t outweigh all the positives. The screen is, however, more difficult to read than other rowers we’ve used. It fits our needs perfectly. We didn’t want to have to plug anything in. This folds up and tucks away in a corner of the room exactly like we needed, and it is perfect to just pull down and go. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to release the back, but once I got it…I haven’t had any struggle since. My husband and I had been trying hard to get back into working out at the gym after adopting our niece, but due to change and a lot of difficulty we decided we needed to supplement it with something at home, too. It’s turning out to be tough with 3 kids in multiple sports and traveling activities. This was the perfect piece of equipment that helped us get through those days when we just couldn’t make it to the gym. Thank you BodyCraft!!

I just had my Bodycraft VR400 Rower delivered to my home. It was delivered on time and the rower was already assembled for quick delivery.

It’s easy to use and folds so that I can store it in my closet.

Just finished my first workout. I LOVE this machine!!!

If you’re looking for a gym quality rower, I highly recommend the VR400 Pro .

I’ve had experiances with vaious machines at the gym, since the Covid risk Ihave been preparing a home gym. I was hoping to purchase the same machine that I was comfortable with. With virtually all machines sold out I happened to luck out with a shipment that had just come in, and bougt a VR400 Pro. I must say the build quality is excellent and assembled without issue. I am very happy with the machine it rides smoothly quietly, the air movement seems focused and keeps me cool, I couldnt me happier. The stroke feels natural and as good as any machine I had used prevously. I would definately recomend the BodyCraft machine.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. I love the ease of the set up. I love the smooth glide and easy to use screen. This rower was worth every penny. Ever since I started CrossFit I’ve wanted a rower at home. The strap instead of a chain is maintenance free. Just love it.

Compared this rower with three other brands and am so glad I decided on the Bodycraft VR400. After some health issues I am just beginning to get back into an exercise routine and did not feel comfortable joining a gym. I like that the VR400 has many different levels and programs that I can grow into. The wide, comfortable seat and smooth glide help keep me on a daily routine. I am hoping to add another piece of Bodycraft equipment to my home gym soon!

Our elliptical from another company needed another repair, and my local dealer offered a trade-in on the VR400 rower. We wanted to try a different type of conditioning equipment, and a rower seemed to make sense. I had only used one years ago at a gym, and we read many comparison reviews between the Bodycraft product and the competitor’s products.

It helped that Bodycraft was the product my dealer sold, but after all of the reviews, I felt comfortable going forward with the trade in. I picked it up already assembled, and it was easy to get in/out of a Honda Pilot – easy enough for my wife and I to carry it into the house.

I have used it a few times this first week, and I love this rower! It lives up to all of the positive things I reviewed before the purchase – extremely smooth motion of the pull / seat. It is quiet and I really like the display – I’d rather have this display than a large OLED that would add another $500 to the price. I can monitor all of the needed information for my workout, and I like that it is adjustable. I also like the manual resistance adjustment – coming from an elliptical that had motors that went out on us twice. I would highly recommend this rower for anyone looking to add to their home gym.

This is our first rower, and we love it! It was pretty easy to assemble, and it is easy to collapse when not in use. I would highly recommend it for first timers.

Just assembled my rower yesterday and had my first full run this morning and what a smooth ride along with an incredible workout. So thankful that our local equipment dealer steered us into purchasing this rower…it is truly a work of art!!!!

Overall, not bad but not great. Having three of these in my small studio gym, 2 of them have had the exact same issue, the ball bearings wore out and therefore machines were done. Both happened just outside of warranty. The third also had an issue and was under warranty when the retraction mechanism for the belt handle went bad.

This rower is great for home use, since it’s both compact and attractive. I enjoy using it — which is key to make sure I work out. I like that the monitor isn’t overbearing, so I can have my laptop next to me in case I need to jump on something work related. The monitor is also not distracting so I can enjoy the meditative effect of rowing. I felt the benefits of a workout right away, and also in my metabolism, which was my goal in purchasing this product.

I love this machine! It is very solid with smooth and quiet operation, and the resistance levels offer a wide variety of intensities. Not having a lot of bells and whistles kept the price more reasonable, and there are still plenty of options with the manual or Race programs, as well as up to 4 different user profiles to keep track of your workouts and progress. I love that it is low impact yet very effective as a total body workout. It is a quality machine with a small footprint and I highly recommend it!

Cardiologist recommended a rowing machine and after much research I decided on the bodycraft vr400. It folds easily to a small footprint and is easy to roll. It is extremely smooth and quiet, a great cardio workout.

I have had my VR400 for two months now. I do like the Rower, very smooth and foldability is an asset. there are a couple of things that could be improved. First is the display. the display is not back lit and is difficult to see without the proper lighting/tilt of the screen. The beep that signals I have achieved my session target is way too quiet. second is the seat. I found it uncomfortable due to the shape at the back of the seat and being very slippery so cannot stay in position. I am using a non slip pad on the seat folding it several times to cushion the seat. Much more comfortable.

I tried 5 models ranging from $999.00 to $2,399.00, from 3 different manufacturers. The VR400 had the most comfortable seat. The VR500 was around $400.00 more and had more features. It also had to be plugged in. The VR400 is battery operated and the tension is controlled by a cable versus a magnet. The assembly was pretty easy and the only tool that I needed was a Phillips screwdriver. The allen wrench was included with the parts. I purchased the extended warranty because the price was the same as a service call and I plan to wear this machine out.

Easy to use for both of us. Had a little trouble assembling it. The directions were not clear, but we figured it out.
